USBN is building the first-ever promotion + relegation professional basketball system in America.
One pyramid. Four levels. Forty-eight teams. One national champion.
Professional basketball in America is about to get something it has never had before: a true promotion and relegation system—where teams earn their place by performance, not politics. The United States Basketball Network (USBN) is launching the first-ever promotion + relegation basketball pyramid in the United States, creating a competitive structure that rewards winning, builds year-round storylines, and gives every market a real path to the top.
At the peak of the pyramid sits the United States Basketball Championship (USBC)—where the final standings crown one team as the United States Basketball Champion.
USBN’s system is designed as a four-level national pyramid. Each level features 12 teams, creating a fully built-out structure of 48 teams across America.
This is the pinnacle. The team that finishes #1 in the Champion League standings is crowned the United States Basketball Champion—the best professional basketball team in America outside the NBA.
Introducing the N1 League, the second tier of the USBC pyramid. The Liberty League is where contenders rise, reputations are built, and promotion becomes a season-long mission.
The N2 League forms the backbone of the national pyramid—high-stakes competition with a direct route upward for teams that prove they belong.
The P4 League is the entry point for new clubs and rising markets. Every year, new teams will begin here with one goal: earn promotion and climb the pyramid all the way to a USBC Championship.
USBN is rolling out the pyramid in deliberate stages—adding one new level at a time while maintaining the same mission: one champion, real movement, and new teams entering at the bottom each year once fully built.
Champion League launches as the top level of USBC competition.
The winner becomes the USBC National Champion.
USBN begins identifying and vetting the next best 12 teams to join the system in 2027.
These teams will form the inaugural USBC N1.
Champion League (Level 1) continues.
N2 (Level 2) launches with 12 teams.
The pyramid becomes a true two-tier system where performance determines movement.
USBN begins selecting the next group of teams to launch USBC N2.
Champion League (Level 1)
N1 (Level 2)
N2 (Level 3) launches
USBN selects the inaugural teams for the bottom level: USBC P4.
Champion League (Level 1)
N1 (Level 2)
N2 (Level 3)
P4 (Level 4)
At this point, the system is fully built: 48 teams across 4 levels.
Once the four-level pyramid is in place, USBN will deliver what fans and teams have been waiting for: real consequences and real opportunity—every season.
1 USBC National Champion (Champion League #1 in final standings)
3 teams promoted up (earned on the floor)
3 teams relegated down (results decide, not reputation)
3 teams drop out (bottom churn creates urgency and excellence)
3 new teams enter at the P4 level, with the chance to climb all the way to a championship
This means every market—big or small—can rally around a long-term mission:
Start at the bottom. Build. Win. Climb. Compete for the title.
Promotion and relegation creates something American pro sports rarely offers:
High stakes all season long
Not just playoffs—every spot in the standings matters.
A real path to the top for new teams
The P4 isn’t a dead end; it is a beginning.
Bigger stories, stronger rivalries, more fan energy
Promotion races. Relegation battles. Championship pressure. Every year.
More opportunities for communities and local partners
Teams don’t just represent cities—they grow local pride, local economics, and local identity.
USBN is not simply launching leagues. We are building a national competitive system designed to last—where teams, owners, players, fans, and communities can be part of something bigger than a single season.
Champion League starts May 2026.
Selection begins Nov/Dec 2026 for the next 12 teams joining in 2027.
And the pyramid will keep expanding until America has a true, four-level, 48-team promotion + relegation professional basketball system—crowned every year by one United States Basketball Champion.
